Beginning October 1, 2024, seniors can apply for a PROPERTY TAX FREEZE in St Louis County! Click HERE for the link to the application.
You will have until June 30, 2025 to apply. In the meantime, let’s get prepared! See below to see if you qualify and what documents you need to gather for the application:
Who Qualifies?
To qualify applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Are you 62 or older?
- Do you own a home in St Louis County? (i.e. is your name on the deed?)
- Is that home your primary residence? (i.e. do you live there most of the time?)
If you answered YES to all of the above questions – CONGRATULATIONS! You qualify!
Now what:
Once the application is live on the website, you will need to fill out the application (only one application per household please!) and provide the documents to support that application.
Required Documentation
Here’s a breakdown of what you’ll need:
- Proof of Identity and Age: You can use documents like a driver’s license, a state-issued ID, or a birth certificate to confirm your identity and age.
- Proof of Ownership: If your name is on the deed to your home, simply provide that deed. If your home is in a trust, you’ll need to show additional documentation proving you are either a Trustee or a Beneficiary of the trust. This could involve trust documents or other legal papers demonstrating your role like a Certification of Trust.
- If you do not have your deed, you can get a copy from the Recorder of Deeds by visiting the Clayton Government Building in person Monday through Friday 8 am to 4:30 pm or you can order it online through the County’s online vendor. - Proof of Primary Residence: Documents that can be used to prove residency include your state-issued ID, driver’s license, voter registration card, or passport.
Finding Your Property’s Locator Number
